Project Details

Over the last couple of months my team and I have worked to develop a fully functional adventure style game focused on environmental interaction and realistic world building styles. We started in pre-production with the development of a mood board and basic concepts and slowly worked to transition these ideas into a tangible and interactive gameplay experience. This game at its core is like the Uncharted series of games as it’s primary focus is to introduce a player to a vibrant world with detailed environments that they can be immersed in while also allowing the player to interact with the world.

Pre-Production

When it comes to the progress on the project, I was particularly pleased with the transition from block mesh to a playable beta. When development of the beta started, I was concerned that I would run into issues where I would not have the needed assets to be able to translate from a block mesh while keeping the look and feel of the level that I desired. However, because of the level of detail that went into my block mesh I was able to decide what specific items I was looking for and find the assets I needed by searching the Unreal Marketplace. Because I was able to find the specific items, I needed for my level I was able to make a smooth transition from block mesh to a stylized beta build.

When I first started the pre-production of this project, I was very thorough in the design of my mood board as I wanted to have as clear a picture as possible before even starting on the block mesh because I am a very detail oriented designed and having a guideline to go off during the production of a project greatly helps with my efficiency while working. Because of the strong focus I put on the pre-production of this project when doing both the block mesh and beta stages of the project I could quickly and effectively create and implement strong scenes in my level that matched my original mood board and project goals. Strong planning before the main production even starts can save a lot of time and effort later and that time can be used to create an even better final product.
